April 20, 2022:

This month, the Big Ten Cancer Research Consortium (Big Ten CRC) highlights The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center – Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and Richard J, Solove Research Institute (OSUCCC) as our featured member. OSUCCC – James member Dwight Owen, MD, MSc is a medical oncologist and member of the Translational Therapeutics Program at the OSUCCC- James. Dr. Owen is a member of the Big Ten CRC’s correlative sciences clinical trial working group and a co-chair of the thoracic clinical trial working group. Dr. Owen shares why he is glad to be part of the Big Ten Cancer Research Consortium.

“I am a medical oncology and clinical investigator focused on designing and collaborating on clinical trials to improve the outcomes of patients with lung cancer. Since joining faculty at Ohio State I have been very fortunate to work with researchers and clinicians who all share the same goals. I was delighted when Ohio State joined the Big Ten CRC because I have known about the organization and have been impressed with the science being done here.”

“I especially appreciate how the Big Ten CRC is able to harness the collaborative spirit of the member institutions to be able to open dynamic studies very quickly for our patients. I have been fortunate to open one of my trials through the Big Ten CRC and the experience solidified for me how important organizations like this are, especially for people like me who are relatively early in my career. Our recent efforts have focused on improving the responses of patients to immune directed therapies. Recently, I was honored to be selected to co-chair the Thoracic Clinical Trial Working Group along with Dr. Durm from Indiana University.”

“I am very much looking forward to working with the Big Ten CRC in this new role and continuing our strong collaborations across the Big Ten Cancer Centers, to make a difference in the lives of patients living with lung cancer.”
